Eliot Spitzer resigns amid scandal, shame and…prosecution?
March 13th, 2008 — Bingo News
A key figure against Online Bingo as well as other forms of gambling, Eliot Spitzer, is now the former Governor of New York. He has plummeted immensely from his position on the moral high ground he took as a chief supporter of the United States’ UIGEA / Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Eliot Spitzer hounded caused much trouble for online gaming companies providing his “public service.” After targeting prositution rings during his tenure as an A.G., he now gets taken down in a prostitution sting.
His resignation on March 12, 2008 will no doubt provide a few snickers and smiles in certain circles.
Another Bingo Club Closed
February 17th, 2008 — Bingo News
Gala Bingo has closed a bingo hall in West Granton, the latest closure since the smoking ban came into effect.
Gala Bingo’s Manager Janet Duncan, stated that “loyal customers had been left devastated”. She said: “It’s all very sad. You got to know so many faces, the regulars. For our loyal customers the news of our closure has left them devastated. What’s put us out of business has certainly been the smoking ban. Also, a bus service that used to stop at our door and pull in punters from Leith and Pennywell no longer runs.”
A spokeswoman for owners Gala Coral, would not comment on why this latest closure had happened but she did say that “The Smoking ban alone could not be blamed”.
